I am one of the lucky ones who is allergic to nickel and had to quit wearing jeans with studs or even uncovered zippers. In order to find jewelry to wear, I had to start making my own with materials guaranteed not to contain nickel. Sterling silver is perfect. I am also allergic to gold.

I have some of the allergies listed. I dont know if having an allergy to one thing makes it more likely to have other allergies or not. I have the metal allergy (no jewelry, belts, even my pants buttons cant touch me) indoor/outdoor allergies (pollen, dust,etc) and the semen allergy. I used to break out really bad, it was scary before i knew what it was.

im also lactose sensitive, and allergic to some vinegars

iPod Itch = Skin Allergy

· Nickel (nickel sulfate hexahydrate). A metal frequently encountered in jewelry and clasps or buttons on clothing.
· Gold (gold sodium thiosulfate). A precious metal often found in jewelry.
· Balsam of Peru (myroxylon pereirae). A fragrance used in perfumes and skin lotions, derived from tree resin.
· Thimerosal. A mercury compound used in local antiseptics and in as a preservative in some vaccines.
· Neomycin sulfate. A topical antibiotic common in first aid creams and ointments, also found occasionally in cosmetics, deodorant, soap, and pet food

· Cobalt chloride. Metal found in medical products; hair dye; antiperspirant; objects plated in metal such as snaps, buttons or tools; and in cobalt blue pigment.
· Bacitracin. A topical antibiotic.
· Quaternium 15. A preservative found in cosmetic products such as self-tanners, shampoo, nail polish, and sunscreen or in industrial products such as polishes, paints, and waxes.

I do have sensitivity to celery and bananas. Celery causes painful reflux, and bananas cause diarrhea for me. Onions don't bother me (I'm not sure about chives), but I'm highly allergic to pollen (I'm miserable in early spring) and can definitely see having allergies to celery.

I am actually allergic to my jeans (which my friends make fun of me all the time for). And it isnt just the rivets, the buttons also make my skin breaks out in hives that wont go away for weeks. Since it is nearly imposible to find jeans that dont have some rivets or even harder buttons i tried covering them with nailpolish which didnt work so i got some liquid stitch(fabric glue), cut up old pairs of jeans and glued the pieces over the rivets. Problem solved! My ears are also alergic to earings, even 24kt gold! So no more earings for me though i am really worried about getting married. It would be horible to be alergic to your wedding and engagement rings!!!

Allergies are so weird - several years ago I became allergic to YELLOW bell peppers. I ate them all the time, but one day I wound up in the ER with a severe reaction. I tested negative for the allergy from the serum in the lab, but the doc had me buy yellow, red and green peppers and bring them to his office. Sure enough, I was severely allergic to the juice from the yellow pepper, a little less to the red, and even less to the green. The doctor said it was the first time he has seen a pepper allergy, let alone one that varied by the color of the vegetable.

just a warning for you corn-sensitive people out there!

i have a corn allergy. what i didn't expect was a connected reaction to latex. the latex gloves i wore a few years at work, while nonpowdered, had a starch coating on the inside. what kind of starch? you guessed it! corn starch! result: latex sensitivity too. :-(

people allergic to nickel may also be able to wear platinum and sterling silver. (Not all can, but it worked for me) If not allergic to nail polish they can cover the metal parts in jeans and clothes with nail polish.

So what I'm left to think here is that the ipod is the only music player capable of causing rashes due to nickel in the casing. Funny how you didn't seem to name a specific cell phone in your article. You just lumped cell phones all together. Why is the ipod the only specifically named electronic device in this article. This will obviously make my decision to purchase a ipod much easier as now I know it is the only portable music player capable of giving me a rash!

My nephew used to have to wear his shirts tucked in- whether he wanted to or not- because the button and belt buckle would give him a rash around his little belly-button. He's 17 years old now and I don't know if he still reacts to metal like that. I'll have to ask now.

I don't see what's so "oddball" about deodorant or feminine product allergies. Both are made with synthetic ingredients, unless you buy the all-natural brands from a health-food store. Even so called unscented commercial deodorant, likewise many commercial "unscented" soaps, still has a "masking fragrance" in it. Makes you wonder what else is in this stuff that smells so bad they have to cover it up.

And yes, I have a deodorant allergy (took me forever to find a natural brand that worked for more than a few hours) and a feminine product allergy (to a lesser degree than the deodorant, thankfully.

You think a WOMAN would be allergic to semen because the MAN want to be with another MAN?!? Do you realize how ridiculous a statement like that is?
