I can testify to this problem:

I've noticed a strong correlation between sitting on my back porch and working in my yard with subsequent creepy crawling sensations. A shower, including washing my hair seems to help most. Generally spraying the yard, porch, etc. with insecticide also helps. These creepy crawling sensations generally involve my eyelashes, scalp, and other parts of my head. Also, while jogging bidaily for about 6-9 miles I have to wear a hat to keep bugs from following me, trying to land in my hair. At times bugs will also try to fly into my ears, nose, and eyes. Obviously I can't run fast enough to run into the bugs, as my car does, so the bugs must pursue me. I had to give up running along the Potomac River in the DC area, because of incredible mosquitoes and biting flies (and those where the ones I could see). Strangely, I didn't have that problem about ten years prior, when I lived and jogged in the same area.

I have a couple of dogs and they bring in all kinds of fleas even though I wash them every week, treat the yard and put flea killer on them. I used a flea comb the other day and had my 3.5X readers on and saw tiny tiny little white crawly things on the black plastic of the comb. I don't know what the creatures were except they were 100X's smaller that the easily seen fleas. So now I fumigate my house every week. They must die, all of them must die, die bugs die.

I had some bugs crawling on me. My apartment had mold and I figured the two were related. I thought they were dust mites but this article says they don't feed on humnans. Well, maybe they just crawl on you, because you could feel them crawl up your legs, etc. But I found a way to combat them: rubbing alcohol. I kept a bottle of rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle by my bed and sprayed whenever I felt the creepy-crawlies and it worked! The creeping would stop. Okay, I never learned what kind of bug they were, but it doesn't matter because I moved out of that place anyway.

It's for real...my family and I have been living a similar hell for the past 2 years. Our mysterious itching began shortly after a trip to Las Vegas in March 2006. We immediately suspected we may have brought back bed bugs from the hotel, so we had a pest control company spray our condo. It didn't work. Our small children continued to complain about the itching, and my wife and I still felt it as well - mostly at night. Out of desperation we replaced our mattresses and simultaneously treated ourselves for possible lice infestion. Let me add that we have always been clean people, therefore, this was not caused by poor hygiene. During this time we showered up to 3-4 times per day and tried all sorts of "home remedies" that we read about on the internet. After a few weeks of this with no results, we went to see our doctor and he thougt we were mental cases. We then took our kids to their pediatrician who diagnosed us with Scabies and gave us some topical ointments to apply to our bodies. Things got better for about a month but then the itching started again - but this time even worse than before. Apparently the unhatched eggs that weren't killed by the ointment had hatched and began to feed off of us again. We threw away all of our clothes, blankets, sheets, pillows and purchased new everything. This cycle went on for months. We had more pest control companies come into our home to spray poisons. Eventually we even ripped out our carpet and replaced it with laminate wood floors in an effort to eliminate anything with fibers that could host these viscious bugs. This has really driven us crazy! Because the problem persisted, we began to consider that there might be something else besides Scabies. We suspected everything from dust mites, to hair follicle mites, to parisites and even thought we could have had a mold infestation. Testing for all of these things came back negative. Yes, we even thought many times that it was all in our head but the itching was real and even our kids kept feeling it, and we had stopped discussing the problem openly in front of them for montsh. Last April, my wife had a mental breakdown because of all of this. It has cost me thousands of dollars trying to rid us of these viscious bugs and put a major strain on our lives. Recently the CDC tested us and said that the bugs no longer live on us and probably haven't for some time. The itching sensation we have continued to feel is a form of post-traumatic stress disorder and that we have experienced nerve damage caused by the prolong itching and stress. Time will heal us but it has been a nightmare, to say the least! I don't wish this on anybody and the scary thing is that it is so hard to prevent. It could happen to anybody.

Bird mites...we just had them too. I kept finding a few tiny brown mites crawling around on my daughter's arms and legs. It freaked her out. I went to the internet looking up mites. The culprit, a nest of baby finches we had been watching on our front porch in a planted fern. So beware...I removed the plant from the porch and destroyed the nest after the babies flew the coop. Thanks to the author of the article for her comment about Appalachia and the South. We really appreciate looking ignorant and unclean. Had she bothered to complete the sentence, she would have noted that poverty ridden areas (such as the Mississippi Delta), including the areas where Hurricane Katrina hit, are where human worm and other parasite infestations exist.

I can attest this is horrible. I thought I had poison ivy, went to the Dr and they thought I did too - so I had creme to apply. After several days it seemed worse and the itching was horrible. Turns out that on a recent family trip to the beach I picked up "sand mites" from sitting on the sand with my daughter. The itching was them eating my skin and burrowing.. and the creme I was applying was just making them mad! It was another Dr. who informed me of what I really had - and that I had to use this medicated solution containing pesticide to irradicate them. I can tell you that you NEVER want to experience it.

I live in the country...yes, some people consider it Appalachia, but it's really NOT. We have bugs, worms and all the creepy crawly things that live thru out the world. No one is really exempt from the parasites mentioned. Growing up, all the kids in the neighborhood loved to play together. We recently raised a bunch of baby purple finches to adulthood (their nest was in a potted plant that was going to be shipped out), and I am guessing the infestation we experienced began with them. I'm here to say that blood-sucking mites are NOT FUN. I suffered several hundred such bites and the itching did not come to an end for a full month. Considering we also raise small rodents for pet shops (been doing so for four years, so the mites were Not there before the birds), this was a royal pain to deal with.

Wow. Oh wow. I just moved temporarily into my parents NEW mobile home (reverse mortgage thing), and brand spanking new, I was seeing (feeling) something wasn't right. And I had just washed my bed linens, and I yanked up the covers, AND THEY WERE IN MY BED. All over! Inside under the covers. Laying on them. Mom said they were ants, but they weren't the ants I know, alot smaller, and then I found them near my main window in some new old webs. I didn't save any for observation up close then, just sprayed, sprayed, and sprayed, and rewashed all of anything. Mom also suggested "midges". I don't know what they were, but I sleep on the couch now. I blame it on that darn hateful poodle tat's going to outlive everybody. But actually I just don't sleep anymore! I am really creeping out after this one and in school (a college class in human disease for a medical program) I/we learned that not only do we have these here (obviously) in the US, but certain place like in South America, these things are overly prevalent and affect a lot of people, espcially natives, who go barefeet and the bugs get into their bodies byt crawling right through the skin in our feet and so on. You can go to the CDC or any search engine and put in one of these bugs names from the article and the CDC (or a lot of Universities) will give you a vast array of information including the life cycles and so on. Go to an image search and put the name in and the CDC's life-cycle will come up!

Be careful not to try to eradicate the good parasites. I don't remember the specifics, but I do know that if we got rid of ALL parasites, including the good ones, that our bodies would be attacked by a lot of worse things. Just be careful, but not paranoid, and remember that most of the "bugs" on our bodies are actually good for us. If you have some unusual bite on your body that seems to get worse instead of better, obviously see a doctor. Otherwise, stop worrying aobut the little "creepy crawlers".

The GF and I had a horrid experience last year while building a fence. Not sure what kind of bug it was, maybe a nest of flees or chiggers. We got half the fence built and went to bed after taking a shower. We woke up the next morning itching like crazy with over 300 bites between us. We washed, bleached and sprayed the whole house. Everything was fine untill a week later when we went to finish the fence and the same thing happened. This time with the washing we included a 7 dusting of the back yard. It's not near as bad as before, but you still can't walk back there without getting bit. I'm not sure what it is.

I worked at a pet store in college and the mice, hamsters, etc there all had mites which i tried my hardest to avoid because bugs creep me out. Well one day at home i was sitting in my bed and noticed one little mite crawling on my sheets, i then started seeing more and looked at my animal cages in my room ( i had a rabbit and 2 hamster cages myself). The cages were filled with mites, crawling on the glass, the bars, cage tops, etc. I freaked out! it took me forever to get rid of them, i had to buy lice shampoo and dilute with water and BATHE my poor hamsters and rabbit, soak their cages and quarenteen them in another part of the apt. I washed all my sheets, clothes, carpet and continued to spray my carpet every day with mite spray. That was horrible!!!

FYI to all that may have or have head lice!!!
There is a product that is called Tea Tree Oil from Austrila that works wonders!!!Just put a couple of drops in the shampoo that you have in your hand and leave on your head for a couple of minutes. Do this for a few days in a row you will be amaized. After that just once every couple of months and you wont see them again. My family is a very clean family, but when your kids bring them home from school, what do you do. I found this and my kids haven't had a case of head lice sense and it's been 2 yrs. Just try it and if you like it pass it on!!

To remove fleas from pets or head lice from humans, get a fine toothed metal flea comb from a pet store and a cup of bowling water. Dip metal comb into hot water, then comb. Bugs will be stuck in teeth of comb. Dip into hot water again, and wipe dead bugs off with paper towel. Continue until adult bugs are removed. There will still be eggs and it is still necessary to "pick nits" for lice.

I experienced something similar to this while living out in the country around fifteen years ago. The mites actually came in through a screen on my kitchen window. Something that may help is, of course, eating lots of garlic -- fresh, every day, if possible! And then taking a medicinal-grade essential oil product. The oil goes into the blood and the critters don't like it at all. Try Peppermint essential oil in your drinking water pitcher or make hot tea with the peppermint oil. There are lots of other oils and blends that will help. But start early and stay vigilant so they don't take over your entire life like some of these unfortunate people. There are treatments for all of these itchings. I had ecperience fighting off headlice and scabies. You have to go to the doctors and get topical lotion for the scabies and wash EVERYTHING, but the most important thing is to dry your laundry in a dryer for at least 20 minutes. This kills them. The heat kills them. They will still live on you laundry if you just hang dry your stuff, so don't. Dry everything in the dryer 20 minutes no less, or longer preferably. To get the headlice out you can use whatever shampoo medicine and leave it in your hair with a plastic bag tied around it for about an hour. However, that is optional. I have 4 daughters that every now and then come home with a case of headlice. And, I find that if you bathe your kids everynight, comb their hair out with a special metal bug comb and in the morning as you fix their hair, for a week straight, or longer, the bugs won't come back!

Seats on public transportation - particularly the back of the head. Children sharing brushes and combs and hats and scrunchies. Sitting on green grass. Playing with an (outdoor) cat or dog. Traveling in general (bed bugs, hymenoptera) where critters hitch a ride in suitcases and move between cases on ships, airplanes, buses, etc.. But if your husband/wife/lover picks up "crabs" (body, not head lice) they are likely sleeping around or going somewhere that is is common to have multiple naked adult bodies contacting the same spaces (not a toilet seat - a bed, bench, or towels linen that are re-used). A little caution, good hygene, strategic use of plant material (chrysanthemum (pyrethrin), lavendar, mint) can all help keep one bug free.

For mosquitos and 'no-see-ums' spray mouth wash around the area.[put it in a spray bottle] When running, just spray the mouth wash here and there as you go. It kills the critters if it touchs them. Original Listerine works best but most other brands do to. Probably because of the alcohol in them. Works on bugs in your garden too, like aphids and spider mites. Just spray and watch them die. I would never use an insect killer like Raid on my skin unless it was the only way to get rid of the bugs and then I would wash and wash and wash it off. It smells good on you but the bugs do not like it. The rangers in the Florida Everglades slather themselves with it before venturing into the swamps. They buy it by the gallon in the stores and swear by it. Smells a bit girly on a guy, but it beats those miserable bites.

when i read this story about this small crawling animals, i remembered long time ago.Yes, it happened to me and to my small kids and an infant baby. I noticed a small crwling animals over the beddings of my kids and mine as well. I was really wondering where it came from, I sweared that night I did not get any sleep watching all my kids, trying to avoid those small animals that really bites litle pain.
The next day, we found a bird's nest in our bathroom window,, there where this animals caming from , i could see them crawling on the walls.
We removed the nest and sprayed with insecticides and chamged all the beddings, then we slept comfortable that night as well my kids.
Since then, I keep checking any nest in our windows or anywhere at home. It was really a disaster.

My dad used to delight in telling the story about a navy guy on the ship with him during WWII that got "crabs". The guy came to my dad just miserable wanting to know how to get rid of them. My dad took him out somewhere and doused him in kerosene! It worked but was almost as miserable as having the crabs. Those of you that have had infestations of whichever insect, you have my sympathy. But we do need to be very careful about spraying Raid on a child or somesuch. I stayed in a hotel once that had a hot tub in the room. I soaked it up! The next day I had this rash all over my back that I thought was ringworm. These red outlined somewhat circular spots. The inside of the circles were normal skin colored. I mean they were ALL over my back and a few on my front.

I went to the emergency room in a panic. The doctors had to investigate it using medical books because they never saw it before but said no, it wasnt ringworm.

I forget the name now but it was some kind of bacteria that was in the hot tub water. I guess they didn't bother to clean it often. And this was a big name hotel too!

I don't want to attack Allen from Pennsylvania verbally, but would like to say that most of the microscopic critters that live on our skin and at the base of eyelashes etc. probably belong there. If 90% of people have these "critters" they are likely inocuous enough. Reading the other comments I find that many stories are truly horrible and lifestyle warnings. That is, it may be important to make sure that if you move to a new rental or stay at a motel it is of a certain caliber.

Most upper middle class people are free of the really horrible worm and bedbug etc. infestations that plagued humans before modern times and such inventions as dryers that kill the human flea, (although I have also read that bedbugs are becoming a problem for many parts of the country regardless of socio-economin background.) Many of the critters around us and on us have evolved to live on our skin surfaces.

The reason that Allen from Pennsylvania feels better after a shower is likely that he has washed off irritating salt and sweat. If it were a real infestation he would have to go to the doctor because it couldn't be washed away. Allen's insecticide spraying is only harmful to himself, other humans and any pets. Some of his creepy crawly sensations may be nervous system damage from that stuff used too liberally (smiling). Bugs that "pursue" him when he is jogging etc. are probably responding to his sweatiness/smell. He should shower before and after jogging perhaps? I just think there is a happy medium when it comes to "critters" as some may indeed even be beneficial.

The research on intestinal worms is being paid close attention to by people like my sister who suffers from Crohn's. It is thought that our immune systems evolved ready to fight thing like worms and other infections (such as tuberculosis). In an almost too sterile world our immune systems may not be stimulated to attack the right things and end up attacking ourselves. I don't mind the bugs that belong on my skin at all..just one girl's opinion.

I've had this unfortunate experience myself once. I was at a yard sale; everything was fine until I went into the garage. I came in contact with some furniture, less then a minute later I felt a biting/itching sensation on my skin. Later that night I realized it wasn't something I could ignore until it went away. I took a long tedious shower, but used laundry detergent (the kind in the orange plastic container with a dark blue lid ) for soap and scrubbed head to toe with a soft bristled brush. The relief was quick and so complete I forgot about what happened before I fell asleep. It wasn't over though, 2-3 days later they were back and with a vengeance. I repeated the same process previously stated twice a day for 2 weeks. Someone else will probably have a better idea but for some reason this worked, I didn't have to throw any cloths away either but I kept my dirty laundry & bedding separated from everything in plastic can liners. I didn't experience any skin reactions during those two weeks, but I don't have sensitive skin. I guess you could call this a home remedy. You may or may not want to try it. It may or may not work for you. Good Luck!

I have for some time debated about moving up North because of the strange bugs down where it is hot. So no more swimming in lakes. A few years ago read a story about a lady in Houston was going insane and acting particular for months and it turns out she got some sort of parasite that rooted in her brain...she'll never be completely normal. Now they have been showing these crazy fiber bugs that are like microscopic worms that some doctors don't even believe is real (theres footage on youtube from ppl trying to get the word out and from San Antonio news covering the story). Theres a lot more stories about these crazy invaders, I could go on and on. Its becoming too much; I am thinking moving to a cold place where these things can't survive is a great idea!

I live in Boca Raton, Florida and have a huge garden. I itch day and night. One day while watering I suddenly felt an inmense itch on my lower back, I thew the hose to the ground and ran inside taking off my clothes to a hot shower, this was 2 1/2 years ago. To this day I have severe itching there and feel something crawling inside my skin.
I have also noticed white and black itsy tiny dots on my skin that itch like hell when I am out doing gardening. I have no idea what they are. The garden gets fumigated once a week now, but I am still itch even after a shower all over my body and including inside my ears. I am thinking of moving to Alaska!!

I've worked in the pest control industry for years and all I can say is that if your infested with a parasite.. pour milk all over your body. Please be careful, you are filling your home with very strong poisons such as foggers and flea powders that may actually kill your dogs and make you sick! Try natural flea remedies like rubbing alcohol, lavender, pennyroyal, diatomaceous earth, borax etc etc. I have heard these really do help. Three years ago I was being treated as a terminal case of congestive heart failure, kidney failure, and all the nasty side effects of it. I began developing a itchy rash on my arms, legs, and my torso. That problem escalated into a situation that kept me fighting infection of the sites, and I helped it along with my constent scratching somewhere--ANYWHERE! It was so horrible, words fail to explain my mysery. I detiorated so badly that I was put into a nursing home waiting for me to die.
It wasdiscovered that I was having a probloem with the Morphene that they were using to keep down the pain. They took me off the morphine and I slowly began to regain control of my scratching. My legs and arms still itch from some kind of nerve damage, still have the heart failure, and many problems to go with it, but I am back home now, doing very well. I am wheelchair bound, but my wife has been very patient with me and helped me keep the will to live going. God didn't take me, it wasn't time! He saw a reason for me to still be here, there still is some work to do before I die! I am giving myself into foster care with my wife, we were guided into this service soon after I came out of the nursing home.

My parents live right next door to this ladies house in Levittown. My Mom called me and told me all about how they came to the house and put her in a Chemical Suit and all. She said the police closed off the street, Saddle Lane, and access from Ring Lane(this lady lived on the cornerof Saddle and Ring). What a nightmare. She was renting from some guy who didn't give a rats butt about the house being infested etc. He's a real jerk. If i were her I'd sue his ass. She apparently called him a few time to tell him before this happened and he never responded and didn't care. Now the house just sits there, rotting away with locks on it. How creepy.

Ahhh...my aunt had a problem like this this once, after having gone on a trip to Mexico. When she came back, more and more she found red, uncomfortable spots appearing on her skin. I live in Pittsburgh too and i had a terrible time with fleas and ticks in my house from two neighbors cats that I let sleep in my house over the winter because they left them out in below freezing temperatures and didnt feed them.
Come march, when it warmed up, I was inundated by the bloodsuckers, in my carpets and even clothes.
I've had a hell of a time trying to eliminate this infestation.
I used flea bombs first, they didnt work at all because they only kill adults, meanwhile the eggs they've layed are not touched.
Then I tried all the different chemicals sold for flea killing and they barely work at all.
I found out that most products over the counter are too weak to kill both adults and eggs.
I sent away out of state for NYLAR, which is a hormone that keeps eggs from ever maturing. For some dumb reason you cant buy it in Pennsylvania, but I had no problem buying on the internet from a Georgia pest control company.
That has finally begun to break them.
Plus I spread BORAX all over the carpets which also has worked well, but you have to leave it in for 3-4 weeks to totally break them.
I think Pittsburgh has gotten much worse for bug problems in the past 5 years. Mosquitos are so bad around my house that I spray malathion weekly, and they are back like clockwork if I dont spray.

Natural products that won't hurt you, but will take care of the bugs can be found at your local health food place. Two products that I know will help to keep you bug-free are 1-Grandpa's pine tar soap (it's great for hair - leaves it soft and very manageable, and the odor dissipates once you are dry) and 2-Body wash, shampoo, and soaps containing tea tree oil. I have used both of these products consistently and with good results. I hope there are no bugs on my mug, but this article has me scratching and I need to go home and grab Grandpa's pine tar soap and scrub myself.

Now it's time to tell what really causes some of these infestations not to mention how to eliminate them. I heard eating undercooked meat or seafoods can cause intestinal worms like tape worms. Especially undercooked pork. So only eat well cooked meats and fish. It is really kinda rare for people to have tapeworms. Wash all fruit and vegies well before eating too. Head lice can be eliminated but it is a long pain in the butt process. You have to wash all sheets, blankets etc. in the hottest water possible. Then pack up things that you can't wash tightly in plastic bags and leave them in there for about a month. Then last but certainly not least go to the store and buy Rid or some other lice killing concoction. WASH EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY'S HAIR WITH THIS. LEAVE IT IN FOR THE TIME SPECIFIED ON THE PACKAGE ,RINSE OUT AND COMB CAREFULLY THROUGH THE HAIR WITH THE ENCLOSED COMB. Repeat the whole wash,comb scenario about a week later.Scabies like to bite around arms and wrists so if you suspect you have them go to the dr. . You will get a prescription for a lotion that will kill them. That is all the infestations I know about. Good Luck!

Actually there are a few natural remedies for your infestations. Adding brewer's yeast and garlic to your diet will make your sweat less palatable to the nitrogen loving biters.
It will also repel fleas who doesnt like the taste. The brewer's yeast has a secondary benefit of making your skin a little healthier.
Black walnut and certain other nutmeats have parasitical properties.

I have been itching for months now. We are in October, and this has been going on since May. It all started when my best friend got his/my puppy, Leo.
