The true blue story of Paul Karason

One can’t help but wonder if the Blue Man Group is feeling threatened.

Sure, they have a good thing going with their sold-out shows, percussion prowess and dancing skills. But we all know what really makes them a hit. Their own advertising slogan points out: “They’re dazzling, they’re outrageous and most of all – THEY’RE BLUE!”

We all know it’s just a facade. When the “blue” men go home at night, they strip off their blue latex, paint or whatever it is that makes them azure and they become just like everyone else.

Not so for Paul Karason. He’s blue for real. Permanently, deeply, completely, Violet Beauregarde post-Willy Wonka blue. He’s so hardcore blue that NBC’s Dr. Nancy Snyderman speculates that even his organs are blue.

Take that, Blue Man Group. The 57-year-old from Madera, Calif., says he started turning blue a decade ago after he tried treating a skin condition on his face with a silver preparation. He’s also been drinking colloidal silver, which is silver in a liquid suspension, for about 14 years, he says.

Before the invention of penicillin in the 1930s, colloidal silver was commonly used by doctors as an antibiotic.  But then again, medical professionals used to think the best way to get rid of a headache was to drill a hole in the skull.

In 1999, the FDA banned the use of colloidal silver in over the counter drugs. The problem, you see, is that it can collect in the skin and organs and cause severe damage. But it’s still sold as a supplement; Web sites also offer manuals telling people how to make their own.

That’s just what Karason did, and he ended up as a walking cautionary tale if there ever was one. Remember how your mom used to warn you not to cross your eyes or they’d stay that way? Sometimes there’s something to that.

Karason says he’s still drinking the stuff, with no plans to stop - or go to the doctor, for that matter.  Even if he quit today, he’s stuck being blue, says Snyderman. Argyria, the condition he has, is permanent.

So, probably, is his nickname. People call him “Papa Smurf,” he says. He seems resigned to his hue and credits the colloidal silver for helping ease his arthritis and dissipate his acid reflux.  Still, it’s a high price to pay for the amount of times he’s undoubtedly been asked, “What’s wrong? Feeling a little blue?” And can he only cheer for football teams of a certain color?

A few days before his appearance on the “Today” show,  Matt Lauer said Karason told him, “You know, it’s not about what you look like, it’s your character.”

Well spoken, from a man showing his true colors. WATCH VIDEO

Decoding a color
Colors often come to represent different things. But we can’t seem to decide how we feel about the color blue.

  • Pro:  The Egyptians used lapis lazuli to represent heaven.  It’s also the color usually used to depict the Virgin Mary. Mood ring decoders say blue represents feeling relaxed and content. (In fact, one Web site suggests it’s the ideal pajama color for that reason.) Weight lifters reportedly do their best in blue rooms.
  • Con:  When you hear a “Code Blue” being called, it never means anything good. And you don’t want to be on the receiving end of someone yelling until they turn blue in the face. Also, whenever anyone sings the blues it’s all about heartbreak and tragedy.
  • Depends:  Blue movies, blue bloods and blue states fall somewhere in the middle depending on your proclivities and politics.

Well it's another case of someone taking something good to an unhealthy extreme!  Coloidal Silver is actually a fabulous thing to have around the house, whenever you feel a bug coming on it will knock it right out before you get really sick.  And it doesn't harm your own immune system like antibiotics.  But the problem here is that he "makes his own" and obviously overdoses on it.  The preparations you buy at the store are as low as 10 or 30 parts per million, and you only have to take a couple tablespoons!  Sad that people like him end up giving natural remedies a bad rap.
Its just another bullshit story -- with out the facts. collidal silver should be used by the alapathics -- but they forget what they learned in med shool. if they even learn anything about heath. and no the FDA did not ban it from over the counter, only the clames- cant you get anything right-- and oh yea- did you know that only a drug can cure- Just more deception in a so called ejecated populus. did you know that colloidal silver is anti viral? what do you have that is anti viral -- Nothing!!! go fuck yourselves
This is a case of someone (this case the blue man) trying to cure himself. What an idiot. I can only same, STOP!!!!! Not only should this be a lesson to people, but it's a colorful one as well. I just couldn't resist that one!!!
The writer did about as much research on colloidal silver as Karason did: NONE. He obviously has an old machine and perhaps thought "more is better". Only a small amount is needed. The FDA doesn't like colloidal silver because they are bought and paid for by all of the drug companies who stupidly spend millions of dollars to create something that works half as well & half as fast as silver, and most assuredly causes side effects that other drugs are needed for, & so on until your med. cupboard is full. It's really hard to overuse colloidal silver so that it has ill side effects, but they still aren't as bad as the ones the FDA doesn't mind seeing in ANY of the drugs it approves us to take! If silver's so bad, why is the federal government testing it as THE cure for HIV????
Scary how many people buy into the nonsense that drinking colloidal silver will cure or prevent anything.
This man’s case is obviously an extremely rare one.  But it is a good example of what I have been saying for years:  In much the same way you wouldn’t eat a half a bottle of vitamins a day unless you want to endure some potentially nasty side effects over time, you also can’t take excessive amounts of colloidal silver daily without eventually provoking a nasty side effect called argyria.  Most people are intelligent enough not to take the kind of huge daily dosages that would be necessary to stain your skin like this man has apparently done over the course of the past 14 years.  But there are still many web sites out there that claim colloidal silver has “no side effects whatsoever” and that you can “drink all you want with no risk.” Those are blatantly untrue statements.  And I have indeed been sounding the alarm against such statements for years.

For those interested in learning more about colloidal silver dosage, please visit our web site at http://www.thesilveredge.com and download our FREE special report titled “What’s the “Safest” Daily Dosage for Colloidal Silver?” which uses the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) own figures to determine how much colloidal silver is safe to take daily.  Just use the link in the located in the upper left-hand corner of the home page.  You might also want to scroll down the page and find the link titled “Buyer Beware: Not All Colloidal Silver Generators Are the Same” and read that article, which is posted right on the web site.

We have a family of 11 and all of us have been using colloidal silver made at home for many, many years.  Also, none of us have needed pharmaceutical antibiotics for many years.  No one is blue.  Colloidal silver must be made properly, with distilled water and no salt.  Otherwise it isn't truly a colloid but is probably silver nitrate or silver protein, and these can cause argyria-turning blue.  And people using silver should take selenium. Especially right now when overuse of antibiotics is causing a wide range of super-bugs like MRSA, I would think people might want to check out some of these alternative things.
As a matter of fact, I inhale colloidal silver (that I make myself) in a nebulizer.  Have been for a long time. You can make it at home and you can drink a lot of it, but you have to make it correctly.  Most people who end up blue have been making it with tap water, I'll wager. And of all the people taking it, there are only a handful that I've ever seen in the media that had argyia.
That's the worst thing that can happen from using colloidal silver. With antibiotics, death is the worst thing.
I live in a little town where many of us use colloidal silver, no one is blue and not many of us need meds. That part of the story that says argyria causes severe damage is a blatant lie.  The reporter doesn't know what the story is.
Interesting FACTS-1; Why did RICH people for THOUSANDS of years ( and still do) use "Silverware" and Plates & Serving Dishes Made of SILVER?
2; Why did Greeks & Romans keep a LARGE PURE SILVER COIN in the Bottoms of their WATER PITCHERS?
3 Why was SILVER VALUABLE in the FIRST PLACE? Was it because you could make pretty jewelry out of it , or because it KILLS GERMS AND VIRUSES?
As a Student of HISTORY ,these Questions come to mind. Silver , HISTORY tells us DOES WORK ,BUT OBVIOUSLY this guy is takeing it WAAAAAYYYYYY TO FAR !!!
Paul is hitting the TALK SHOW circuit, he's HIT IT BIG TIME with the OPRAH (FEB 19th, 2008) show now.

Paul tells everyone he used a high ppm concentrate silver nitrate made with using salts (A huge no no) and kept putting it on his face mulitple times per day.  I hope he tells the truth about his improper use and production of colloidal silver. In 12 years of making it for me and my family, I never used salts of salines and bought a machines from a reputable company that warned me all about ARGRYIA upfront. I'm sorry that PAUL and the REPORTER never did their research!

I was surprized today( 26/08/2008) when I heard about Mr. Karason's story on Turkish media and shocked with its content. At least you have a trustable media over here . You are lucky. God help Turkish people.
wow :)
its very interesting article.
Good post.
realy gj

thx :-)
And now he thinks an ionic foot bath will help?  That won't do anything at all, it's a quack rememdy also!  Ionic "detox" machines just cause the water to turn colors even if no ones feet is in the water, don't waste your time and money on something that is just an electrolysis machine!
