Infections, rashes and fungus. Oh my.

Hardly a week passes without scientists warning about some scary new germ.

Even if bird flu is now being called the pandemic that wasn’t there are plenty of deadly bugs to worry about these days – drug-resistant staph infections, the return of bubonic plague  and a new, crippling mosquito-borne virus spreading worldwide that experts think is connected to global warming. There’s even a mutated cold virus that’s been killing young adults – mostly military personnel — over the last 18 months.

All the talk about those nasty pathogens may turn you into an obsessive, Purell-hoarding germophobe, but what about the infections that are simply more annoying than deadly?

In episode 40 of the Body Odd podcast, Dr. Billy Goldberg and Mark Leyner discussed the  most annoying infections that cause all kinds of misery and suffering, but don’t really do serious damage or leave lingering problems. Let’s see, there’s yeast infection – the bane of many women’s existence. Don't forget bladder infections, also known as cystitis, or athlete’s foot.

Of course, anything can kill you, really, as Dr. Billy notes. “You can get complications from very simple things.”

For Mark, jock itch is a major embarrassment. But, he says, “the infection that drove me absolutely crazy, that I live in mortal fear of ever getting again is – pink eye. You wake up and your eyes are stuck together and you look in the mirror and you get a chill. I had buckets of pudding pouring out of my eye. It’s a particularly gruesome …infection.”

Actually, pink eye, or conjunctivitis, is an infection caused by a wide range of viruses, bacteria and irritants. It’s most common in children, but can affect anyone of any age.

Billy also mentions sore throat, sinus infections and skin rashes among his top annoying maladies. Talking about rashes prompted Billy to share a little medical humor. "The joke about dermatologists is, if it’s wet, they dry it, if it’s dry, they wet it, and if they don’t know, they give it steroids,” he says.

Mark thinks a person’s list of annoying infections is a Rorschach test of who he or she is. What’s on yours?

The most annoying, non-life-threatening infection must be the sinus infection.  Can't breathe, can't taste, watery eyes, sore throat from the drainage, puffy face, etc.  All from one ailment that is hard to cure because while antibiotics get into the bloodstream, they rarely reach the site of infection: the sinuses. Yuck.
best defense against sinus infection is the baking soda-canning salt homemade nasal rinse. make it weekly.  use it daily. google for the recipe. use it like you were going under a big-ass surf wave. Know how you brush your teeth every day? treat the sinus rinse the same way. Don't feel clean without it.
Sinus infections are awful!! Throbbing pain in the eyes and forehead- can't breathe, rasby voice, very nasal voice  and headaches> what is one to do besides- drink lots of liquids, rest, take decongestions, avoid irritants(dust, mold etc.) I had one 10 days ago and now are getting the same symptons again, after 10 days of amolllicion and decongrestions. What am I to do??
I do not smoke and live in smoke-free environment.
HELP!!
Try using a NETI POT to flush out your head.  You can get one at Walgreen's or Walmart usually.. they use normal saline in a little teapot looking thing.  You put the end up in one side of your nose and tilt your head slightly over a sink. The warm salt liquid goes up your nose and over and out the other side of your nose.  It isn't real pleasant, but doesn't hurt either.  Small price to pay for flushing out your nose and sinuses and relieving congestion and allergie irritations. Cheap too.
Good Luck
Sinus infections are awful, but having recently experienced a kidney infection for the first time, I have to say that takes the cake.  Horrible pain and out of control fever. I have never felt so sick in my life.
dear bonnie... during the years i have had to revert to alternative methods for healing...try snorting salt water...warm water with maybe a tablespoon of salt...i know it sounds most unpleasent...but it helps....it was recommended to me by a hollistic doctor ...do it twice a day to clear everything out
kidney infections...i've had that too...boil parsley in water until it turns green...drink it hot like a broth with salt and pepper, or drink it cold...it help take away the pain....don't forget the cranberry juice!
I continually get fungus in my thumb nail on my right hand. I have my nails done weekly and the nail tech uses an acrylic. It starts to go away, or does go away then comes back.  What is this caused by and how can I  finally get rid of it once and for all?

Sinus infections aren't just annoying, and it's misleading to say they are.  If untreated, sinus infections can cause brain abcesses, infections around the heart, or permanent loss of smell.  Seeing the medical community deciding not to treat sinus infections makes me wonder just how many people will die of the first things I listed within the next few years.
The cheap saline is across the aisle with the contact lens stuff called "saline solution for rinsing soft contact lenses in a 12oz bottle. Don't be fooled by the little 4oz "nasal spray" for almost the same price. Not that it will really do you any good; but, hey, you get up and move around a bit, go to work, and pretty soon you'll forget all about that little headache and discomfort you have, right? You'll forget all about how you'd like to cut your own face off, preferably with a piece of broken, brown glass from an old Clorox bottle.
So what if you have a bladder infection, yeast infection, AND athlete's foot ON YOUR BACK.. not to mention an infected bellybutton? I feel like my body is just shutting down on me..!
I have a fungus under my breasts in my groin area and under my belly apron. Any place it get warn and moist I end up with brown colored (like age) spots. The area itches and was told to use Mystatin cream-Desenex powder or Gold bond powder. None of this worka and it is driving me goofy. Can you help?

Good day, sun shines!
There have been times of troubles when I didn't know about opportunities of getting high yields on investments.  I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never thought that there weren't any need in big initial investment.
Now, I feel good, I started take up real money.
It's all about how to choose a correct partner who utilizes your money in a right way - that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the income with me.

You may ask, if there are such firms?  I have to answer the truth, YES, there are.  Please get to know about one of them:
